Hey Ho! Let's Go!
My Dear Fellow,
Like you, I took the 23 to work this morning. Sort of. The bus number thingy must have got stuck. I felt sorry for the driver. At every stop he pipped his hooter and shouted:
“IT’S NO THE 23 – IT’S THE 24! AYE! THE 24! AH'M NO THE 23!!”
And then the commuters shrugged, because they didn’t want the 24 anyway. It’s a thankless job being a wrong-number bus driver.
However, it gave me a warm glow knowing we were on the same bus this morning. Not in my loins though. I mean, I am very fond of you, but heavens man.
Have I made it awkward? I have, haven’t I? I’ll shut up.
When I got to Pret they didn’t have a Pain Au Raisin. Ivona behind the counter knows my preferences and was very apologetic, but I was sanguine and ordered an almond croissant instead. I’m nothing if not flexible. Because I was so brave and stoic she let me have everything – coffee, pastry and the 5p paper bag for free, gratis, NO pence!
I then missed my tram because I bumped into “Curly Dave”. That is not his real name. It is the nickname I secretly gave him and never said. He and I worked together at Slack and so I caught him up with my news. And then I took the opportunity to take pictures and catch the bus instead. See? Flexible.
And after a not noteworthy day of nothing at work, I took myself to the pictures to see "Spider-Man: Homecoming". I love going to the pictures. I just love the excitement of sitting there in the dark waiting for the film to come on. I always have. For this reason I'm very forgiving of films I see at the pictures. And I've seen some RIGHT CR*P in my time, let me tell you. I don't care. I'm sitting in the dark, watching a big filum.
But as it happens, the movie was actually really good, and sweet and funny and it sent me scurrying out into the night with a spring in my step. I even called the burger guy "dude" when I stopped off for burgers on the way home.
I mean, seriously, "dude"? I'm FORTY-EIGHT years old. I SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED. That language should be behind me by now. But that is what a good summer blockbuster will do to me. I'm 15 years old seeing "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock" again.
Long story short, it has been a good day, dude. And let me tell you, a free almond pastry tastes twice as good as a regular one.
