Blowin' in the wind

Or it could be entitled Stiff Southerly. High in what was once a laburnum tree, long since dead, the New Zealand flag lets us know what way the wind is blowing. We walk out of our sheltered cul de sac and into the teeth of the southerly. The wind blowing the flag comes straight off the Antarctic. We have the best climate in NZ we always claim. It is always worse somewhere else and to the south and north it is. The chap who climbs up the tree has to replace the flag every few weeks, mainly because it snags on the branches.Born in England his family came to NZ when he was a boy. He is a builder by trade and a bit of a Barry Crump. (Barry Crump was what we would call a ratbag, a character who wrote books on his hunting, shooting, fishing days and became well known in Toyota ute adverts. His many wives and children didn't always see the fun in him.Hehad two sides to him).
I got out the old SX50 to try a few things on. It is much lighter to walk with and so I walked to town and was soon warm  despite the wind.
