Beetle in the Bog

The southern end of Derwent Water has a winding duck board. This allows dry passage through the marsh and reed beds from one side of the lake to another. Right now, the area is full of flowering bog plants such as Marsh Woundwort, Meadowsweet and Purple Loosestrife. There are also swathes of bright yellow Bog Asphodel with their unusual feathery stamens. Sitting happily on top of one such flower was this Common Red Soldier Beetle.
