After the party
Never again, is what Gavin said to me this morning - referring to holding a 21st party at home! We were up early and while Gavin was cooking bacon on the BBQ for the guest's breakfast of bacon butties and strong coffee, my sister and I were clearing up the mess from the night before - I think I spent two hours picking broken chards of glass out of the grass - quite a few glasses were broken but it was really due to broken beer bottles - note to self, never ever have beer in bottles at a party again! So no, we won't be doing the same for Adam next year when he turns 21 but luckily for us he would like a party at a venue and not at home - whew, that is so much easier (and cheaper)!
The main thing is Luke and his friends loved the party, they all said they had an amazing time - for Luke it was also a bit of a farewell party as now that he is off abroad for a year he won't see many of his friends for a long time. We got them up, gave them breakfast and then chivvied them along their way as Luke had to leave for the airport at 2pm to fly to Paris as he starts his new internship tomorrow morning - hope his head feels better by then!
We seemed to spend most of the day tidying up and washing glasses to return to Majestic, but then we did take my sister out to Kingston and we walked along the river enjoying the hot summer weather and watching a regatta that was taking place on the river.
This is a photo of Adam and his friend who came to the 21st party - they are both working at the same summer school course so had to get back for the evening shift. This is a photo taken in the village before they headed back to Cambridge.
