Rain Or Shine?
It's not quite as clear in a photo as it was with the naked eye, but most of what you see are angled rays from the sun breaking through the clouds. The part that isn't so clear is the slim, more vertical section above the bird and pole. That section is actually rain which is evaporating before it hits the ground.
Mom and I went into Tucson for lunch at Panera Bread then stopped at Trader Joe's. On the drive home we could see several of the trademark sheets of monsoon rains in the distance. We were only 2 km from home when a few sprinkles hit the windshield. When I arrived home I took a walk around the neighborhood. It was really hot (it's been above 106°/41° most days this week) and sticky. It was then that I saw this pretty unusual sight across the desert.
Oh, and we never got any rain....
