What d'ya know?

Repairs have started on the road that has been single lane since February when part of it was damaged by erosion.  I'd be scratching my head too, because it's going to be quite a job.  According to an article in the July 26 Driftwood, repairs were delayed "...because of the wish to source materials at a local quarry.  Because the boulders and drainage rocks need to be placed in an environmentally sensitive location, ministry staff arranged to have testing performed on the rock that we intend to use from the local quarry."  Tests from one section of the quarry showed that there was a high probability of acid and metal leaching from the rock, but tests from another section had excellent results.  Great that there is rock available on island because it would be so expensive to barge it in from off island.  No idea how much the final cost to repair the road will be.  I wonder how long it'll take.  Watching with interest, and since I walk or drive past here almost every day, I'm sure there will be more blips.  I included an extra of  huge Hitachi down below the road on the beach.
Not happy with this photo but I did want to document part of the crew on site, and they moved away just after I took this from quite a distance so it's very cropped.
