Hard light in Whitstable Harbour
Susan's niece, Laura and her husband Thomas are down from the north, from near Inverness to visit various friends and family. This afternoon we took them to Whitstable for a picnic lunch, a wander around the harbour and seafront and a cup of tea and scone.
Thomas, the Braveheart, went for a swim, reporting that the water was warm. Well, it would be compared to the waters of the Moray Firth. I always like Whitstable despite its gentrification over the past decade or so. Lots of interest around the harbour and along the sea wall. Some pretentious houses of course, which are very popular with people from London. It has made a difference to the town though, with many small, independent shops, butchers, bakers and the like lining the High Street.
On the way home we went cherry hunting. I remembered that we bought some this time last year on the road between Challock and Faversham. Despite the lack of confidence by some in the car in my ability to find the place again we drove straight to it. The cherries were excellent and very reasonably priced too.
