September Challenge - Pasta - Panorama Update
Day 18 of the September food challenge - Pasta
Panorama has long been the BBC Television's flagship serious current affairs programme, it having been going since the 1950s. Those of a certain age (e.g. older than even me) will have seen the report on the bumper spaghetti harvest in Switzerland.
This year the weather was not nearly so kind and my own pasta harvest in the garden has been much later and poorer. I don't actually grow spaghetti, since it prefers a more southerly climate, preferring to grow the much hardier fusilli.
Normally at this time of the year there would be huge bunches all ready to pick, but with such a wet start to the summer I have just a few small clumps of one or two pieces at a time, which if it was not for the far superior taste of freshly picked pasta would hardly be worth picking.
All of it will need to be picked before the first frost, for once ready for harvesting any frost will devastate the crop.
Bolognese anyone?
