A sentimental journey

We are in the Jura or Franche-Comte. This is Ornans, the birthplace of the artist Gustave Courbet. The river Loue cuts through the heart of this pretty little old town and the hills of the Jura tower above it. I took a photo very similar to this almost 30 years ago.

Today we were on a bit of a sentimental journey. We revisited an area of France in the Jura that we were last in in 1983, when our children were very small. We found the village we stayed in then and even the house. I have old photographs and we took them round to compare. We had a discussion with a lady who was in the village then. She was delighted when she recognised her house and her car in a photograph. Cheese was made in the village then and we used to go down to the Fromagerie to buy it. Unfortunately the Fromargerie was now closed, but we did hunt out another one to buy a big slab of Comte to take home.

Tomorrow we head for Calais and home on Wednesday.
