Summing it up
I chose this photograph to blip because it rather summed up the day. It certainly reflects the day's end, where the weather has really closed in.
We made a very early start, leaving Edinburgh before 5.30am, and consequently we were having a bacon roll in Aviemore by 8am. A lot to be said for empty roads early in the morning in the summer. We were also at our destination for lunch, Kylesku, very early, so we pootled around a bit, viewing the bridge from a number of angles, as well as taking in a viewpoint, from which this was shot. The best weather was probably when we were sitting inside having lunch, but at least we had an excellent view (see extra - the view from the Kylesku Hotel, up the loch. The food was equally impressive).
After stuffing our faces, we wandered over to Lochinver, picked up some extra supplies from the village shop (but still managed to forget tea, so we had to go back again later) and found our accommodation. It has a great view of the harbour and Stac Pollaidh (edit: Suilven and Canisp) behind, but that will be for another day. For now, someone seems to have stolen Stac Pollaidh Suilven as it has completely disappeared from view, although it will be hours before it's dark.
Initially, we found the accommodation a bit cold, but we've found the heaters now, and we've settled into our chairs for a quiet evening of...nothing much really. After getting up at 4.30am, it won't be a late one tonight! Hoping for better weather tomorrow.
