Not a fan
A simple purchase of a wall mounted fan has caused us to sweat it out dealing with the people at Crompton Greaves and their appointed service centre in Delhi (Jagdamba Electrical for anyone out there who might have to deal with them one day).
Within a few days of being installed, the cool breeze we had long been waiting for abruptly stopped with the burnout of the fan's motor. All that remained for us to contend with was a bad smell and lousy service. Several phone calls later, a technician finally arrived and promised to return with a new motor. He didn't. But he did leave wires dangling and the shell of a fan sitting on the sofa as a reminder of what we didn't have.
More phone calls, some arguing later, D had to return to the shop where he had purchased the fan. There had been no warranty card in the box and the shopkeeper had purposely withheld the receipt to avoid paying his taxes.
Every part of existence in Delhi involves staying highly vigilant and not falling into a trap or becoming victim to a scam or a sheister trying to run you down in traffic.
Once again we made some more phone calls and registered a complaint with CG. After some days we saw the return of the same technician, now very sheepish but with a new motor and finally we have a working fan. We got less than what we paid for and more than what we bargained for.
