Travels with Alfie

The last ferry of the day

The last ferry of the day makes its way into the Royal William Yard.

A great day (apart from getting stung by an angry wasp as I tried to rescue the front of the house from the Wisteria which threatens to engulf it). We went to the opening of the Moby-Dick Big Read. It is a fascinating project, two years in the making, and Mrs. C was lucky enough to be asked to read a chapter to be broadcast later in the year.

We listened to Philip Hoare talk rivetingly about his life-long obsession with whales and his close encounters with them and then we were treated to Simon Callow doing a tour-de-force reading of one of the chapters which was gob-smackingly good.

The boys were more impressed beforehand that Mr Callow had appeared in Dr Who rather than by his Shakespearean credentials, but even they were taken aback by his reading.
