Travels with Alfie

Tour of Britain

Much excitement this weekend as the TOB passed close to home. We trooped out to Brentor a good hour before they were due to pass. It was great to see so many people out to cheer them on. Also a lot of cheerful policemen on motorbikes in evidence, waving to the crowds; no doubt looking forward to double-time and pleased not to be stuck waiting for speeding motorists at radar traps.

After much waiting, it was over in a flash. I ended up with a very mediocre bunch of photos. I think I should stick to landscapes; they don't move.

I quite like this because it gives some inkling of speed and I like the contrast between the little girl's open face and the grim anonymity of the cyclists.

The picture does benefit from a larger view, I think.

Off to Plymouth to see Audrey Niffen....Niffenburg....the woman who wrote the Time Traveller's Wife. It's the Plymouth International Book Festival and, together with other festivals on (we seem to have moved from one festival to another over the summer) the place is buzzing. Hats off to the folk who are making all this happen.

All we need now is a decent football team.

By the way, I really had to reduce the quality of the photo to get it to upload. Anyone else having problems?
