Flying marmalade
Episyrphus balteatus, also known as Marmalade Fly, is Britain's commonest hoverfly, but that makes it no less attractive and entertaining. There were lots in the garden today, hovering, darting forwards and backwards, then landing on plants with lots of nectar to offer. Its larvae feed on aphids, so it's great to see them around.
