Dance flies

I had fun photographing some dance flies in the garden this evening. They are quite amazing with their long legs, spherical heads on thin necks and huge downward-pointing mouth parts (giving them the other common name of dagger flies). I'm fairly sure these were the species Empis livida. I watched one deal expertly with a smaller fly it had caught, whilst nonchalantly hanging from a leaf by one leg - a great trick!
