A day on Dursey
Just back from a big day out! We headed out to Dursey Island - a small island at the very tip of the Beara Peninsula. There we met TJ and a friend of hers, plus Charlie the Belgian Shepherd - scenery, walks and wells were on the agenda. The super exciting thing about Dursey is it can only be accessed via a cable car - the only one in Ireland - see extra. Safely on land we explored. Everywhere looked stunning - rolling hills, spectacular walls, abundant wildflowers and tons of dereliction. Dursey once had three flourishing villages but is now home to only 6 souls and it feels a little melancholy. The well hunt was not entirely successful and I think a large cow and her calf were standing in what had once been the well.
The glorious warm weather changed rather abruptly in the afternoon and as we waited for the return cable car it was blowing a mighty hoolie! And you can only fit 6 people in at once and the queue was large. The original car also carried sheep, cattle and humans until 'elf and safety stepped rather boringly in. I am now seriously weatherbeaten.
Apologies for lack of comments, I will catch up at some point!
And don't forget, tomorrow is World Naked Hiking Day - just saying! That's something to consider over your cocoa.
