Lincoln Memory

After well over 18 years, the moment has finally come - Gaby is at university. She had to go, she 's been ready for it for the last year, I just hope the moment hasn't passed by.

The journey started later than planned as G had so much to squeeze in, and as L, E and Alex were coming too, the roof box had to go on. The road to Lincoln wasn't too bad, but when we hit the outskirts of the city, the jams began. With some 10,000 or so students all moving in either today or tomorrow, probably each with a parent driving them, that makes for many more cars on the road.

Anyway, the accommodation was very well organised, with parking to offload and a large trolley large enough to put nearly all her stuff on, we had everything in the room in a jiffy. Then we went into town to do yet more shopping!

G didn't want to say goodbye to us and kept finding excuses for us to stay a little longer, but I know she'll be ok. Emma was surprisingly upset - she usually has a tough exterior, but knew she'd miss her big sister. Ah well, it's only for a dozen weeks or so. G's room is very modern, en-suite and very near to campus. There should be another five students sharing the kitchen area, but none of them have moved in yet, so she'll be swimming around by herself tonight.

It was quite dark by the time we arrived back, already planning little trips in the direction of Lincoln!

This is a shot I took from the University Library bridge, looking at the very old original cast iron bridge over the canal, with the cathedral just visible in the distance.
