From Grafton Bridge

The ride to work in the mornings can be extended in time by up to five minutes by the traffic lights. Red lights do have one advantage; they allow for pauses in the ride. This morning I had almost no delays, and as I started across Grafton Bridge I was thinking that I might free wheel. Then I saw that the sun was just at that time emerging from below the horizon.

Although Grafton Bridge was, for about ten years from the mid 90s, restored to its original design (three foot high concrete balustrades, and old fashioned lamps; electricity now rather than gas), new barriers were installed just over ten years ago. These new barriers are perspex, and curved, and as well as trapping exhaust fumes over the footpaths, are usually dirty and interfere with seeing the view.

However, at the bottom of each panel of perspex is a gap; a gap large enough for a hand holding a camera to be positioned, held steady, and get a photo. Perhaps this may indicate that hope for the future can come in unexpected ways.
