Mendenhall Glacier
Short ride from Juneau to this look out. This glacier is the largest of about 30 that flow from the ice field / sheet remnant. It is loosing several feet vertically each year, and retreating rapidly. We were told it at the current rate it could be gone in 60 or 100 years. ( two different commentaries).
Like the tree at home there are many out with cameras . When we left there were 20 to 30 large buses parked, not counting the ones that just came and went. Fortunately we were there before the rush. There were 5 cruise ships today, and there can be to 7 ships in on a single day.
