Oslo History in a River
You can easily see the importance of the Aker River in Oslo. It powered everything from flour and saw mills through the industrial revolution - you can say that about a lot of rivers, but this one has the most amazingly huge and fierce waterfalls all in a short distance.
We walked from our hotel and reached the river just in time to get drenched by a cloudburst. Nothing like a little added drama: we huddled under our umbrella, under some small trees, and got very wet and splashed with mud. Not to worry though, that same industrial revolution led to wonder fabrics so we were soon back on the trail none the worse for a little dampness.
