It's that dog again!
Another shot of Ollie waiting for me! I was working this morning, but this afternoon, as soon as I had put the washing machine on and had some lunch, we headed out into the fields. Now that the cattle are all inside and the sheep are several fields away, it is safe to go for walks in the ones round the house. I keep hoping I'll find the Christmas wreath that vanished from the back door during the gales. It is probably in Norway by now, but as it was an artificial one I'm hoping I'll find it hanging on a fence somewhere!
All we found today were copious amounts of goose shit! The fields are covered in it. There is quite a serious goose problem in Orkney in that rather than just come for the winter, the birds now don't actually ever leave! They ruin the fields by eating the grass as they pull it up, roots and all, and also leave a slimy layer of droppings, which kills the grass they don't eat! Folk scare them and shoot them, but they resume their grazing the minute folks' backs are turned! All the same, they are beautiful to watch, especially when they take off in a huge cloud, and you see them high up in the sky in their amazing V formation flights.
We had a grand walk, and the bonus was that luckily Ollie didn't feel the need to roll in anything!
