Noises from the SW Front

Land above the clouds

Apparently that's what the ancient Hawaiians called Haleakala. The clouds must have been a bit taller today as they were still swirling around at the top. It was terrific though. We had peeks into the massive crater at the cinder cones, then as the clouds shifted, we could see down over the fields of ash and broken rocks. Very neat, and also the highest mountain I've ever been up, and we drove the whole way. Isn't touring in the modern world terrific? 30F cooler at the top, than at the beach - all we had for insulation was our rain ponchos, hence the bulkier than usual shadow.
