Winnats Pass

Monday 12th June 2017 (1752)

I managed a quarter of a mile swim before breakfast, now there's enthusiasm!

We went out to Speedwell Cavern. It is an old underground mine and you travel on a boat through the narrow passageway, getting off at the end to stand in the cavern before the return journey. Getting in and out of the boat into the cavern was a challenge which Mum fully embraced, along with the 106 steps down!

You can't go to the cavern and miss the Winnants Pass so we drove up to come back down. Always a favourite view of mine. We then went on to the reservoirs in the Derwent valley, famous for the practice runs for the Dambusters and also for featuring in the film. We chose the wrong dam to walk to though so missed the dam from the film. Although I've travelled that area before I didn't know it was the location so I will have to revisit some time and get a classic dambusters shot, although without the Lancaster!

After a light lunch we returned to the hotel for a rest. Looking forward to a nice meal this evening and another game of cards.
