inspiration all around us

inspired by an acorn

We have been in Kendal a year now and, although I miss my Scottish friends sometimes, I have enjoyed seeing those things one takes for granted in England. Although oak trees grow in Aberdeenshire, they only rarely produce acorns and so when I saw this one on a tree in Bakewell, it took me right back to my childhood when we used to use the 'cups' for fairy drinks and pixie hats.

I'm watching the hazel nuts ripen on the tree too, and hope to harvest some before the squirrels find them all. I'll crack them carefully between two stones and enjoy the kernel fresh from its shell. The blackberries look bigger too - or is that my imagination?
