Across the road

Before we left today I crossed the road to appreciate the view and take a few photos. It was crisp and cold with fresh snow nearby.

This is what I look out on from where I stay. Sadly the Ahuriri Arm of Lake Benmore is sick and I don't fish it any more. I live in hope that we'll learn to cherish clean water in this country before it's too late. I can't see any future for a agricultural based economy without clean water.

That's all I'll say at the end of weekend that's been a lot of fun and good times. I'm unpacked, mostly sorted, and the little pope is home. I'm not sure he enjoyed his new cattery. He was wary of the owner but did have cuddles when food was involved. He ate fine and did the business each day so he can't have been too traumatised.

I've even fitted in a quick visit from my cousin Hamish, his wife, and a couple of their kids. They live a long way from me but Hamish helped with background checks on places I was interested in when I was looking for a new home. He wanted to see my home and it's got the tick of approval :-)

Today's gratitude: To return home to a cosy, warm home without a sinking feeling that I'd now need to face another round of emails and strategies to get issues addressed.
