The church fête

It's early June in Humshaugh and that means the church  fête, although last year we had a gap. The  fête has returned as a garden party on the vicarage lawn and was a lovely easy going affair, enjoyed by all.

Here are three of the ladies who were selling cakes. They made the cut (sorry) for the main image, but you can see the ladies selling teas as my extra.

A small boating lake had been constructed and there were beautiful wooden boats for sale. The little ones loved this. Margret (next door) put on a puppet show with German hand puppets. The children enjoyed handling them afterwards.

Lots of people we know were there. Mum was able to sit at a table and people came to talk. The sun shone. Rain threatened buy held off.

There was a plant stall, a tombola (bottle of red wine to us), a raffle (of a scarecrow!), face painting, four basses (cheaper than the 3 tenors) and accordion and guitar.  I suspect this is a very English afternoon and it gave welcome respite from the election.

Our first fête was in 2000 and it poured. I remember wearing a yellow kagool and walking boots as I did my waitress job. People sat outside and ate tea under umbrellas. Apparently it has rained only twice in the last 30 years!

Whispers - I think the jet lag may have gone!  Shh!
