The holiday cottage comes with out of hours access to Fountains Abbey. We were there at 8.30 this morning to enjoy the peace before visitors were allowed in at 10. What we didn't know is that every Saturday morning there's a parkrun at 9 o'clock and people were assembling and warming up.
By taking the high route we kept away from them, only crossing the path once when they were much more spread out. 

There was thunder and 10 minutes of torrential rain later, just as I spotted deer so it was camera away and waterproof jacket on. My trousers got soaked but sunshine returned and I dried out quickly. 

We were back at the cottage before the next storm which lasted a lot longer than the first.
