Spar Spelunkment

Last year was, as we were staying so close, the first time we'd tried to get into the Spar Cave. The tide times, and relatively high low tides just weren't in our favour, however, as you need a low tide to be able to walk in from the shore. This year the low tides start climbing in height again from today, so we needed to make the most of it. And I'm so glad we did, this cavernous space far exceeding anything I could imagine, and the white run-smooth walls reminding me of something out of the Alien movies.

This after starting the day spending half an hour watching an Otter hunt (incredibly successfully) of the rocks near Kilmarie. We saw him land 4 crabs, taking them apart with ease. He makes it into the extras.

The other contrast with last year is simply the weather. A year ago it was snow every night, and no chance to sit out on the deck looking out onto the Cuillin. This year, while not exactly baking hot, the wind is low enough to appreciate the sun when it's out, and we've just spent a pleasant time sipping G&T looking into the heart of the mountains.

Also confirmed today that the boat trip to Canna tomorrow is going ahead (last year completely scuppered by the weather). We've got 5 hours ashore. Hopefully enough time for me to exhaust every possible angle you can get of a Puffin...
