A Bit Sketchy

On Saturday, while out at St Abbs for the walk George wanted to go on for his birthday, we popped into a gallery beside the National Trust car park. There was some lovely stuff in there, including some large fox pictures, done in  what looked like (to me) watercolour, then pen and ink. They were fab, and though they crested £400, there was a serious case of 'want'.

Then Mel suggested I'd be able to do something like that myself. I don't know if it was a way to get me to hurry up, but the thought stayed with me, and after an entire day today of co-presenting a big training session for big-work-project, my brain was a bit frazzled and I just needed to do something creative. Cue having a go. The initial sketch was a 5 minute job in pencil. Watercolour maybe ten minutes. Then the waiting for it to be dry enough to ink up. A surprisingly short space of time (steps in the extras), and something I'm quite happy with as a first attempt (spoiler, I'm writing this 'tomorrow' as I wait for the watercolour on a very different sketch, done in the same style, to dry).

Even Mel, the following morning (given I'm posting this a day late) commented in as fulsome praise as any sketch of mine has received from her, "That's not bad. It's quite good actually. Not quite as abstracty..." (the originals in the gallery were a bit more 'loose', a look I'm going to have to have another go at replicating).

Another full day of training tomorrow, but much much less for me to do. And the promise of a meal out with some transatlantic colleagues afterwards.
