Secret Holiday

My Dear Fellow,

Apparently today is one of those secret "Edinburgh only" bank holidays that happen from time to time. I've never understood them or known when they are. Someone said it was "Victoria Day" but he could have been making it up.

However, the bus was quieter on the way in and the tram less stuffed on the way home so there may be something to it. I wonder if I just made up my own Secret Holiday days, would people would go along with it?

MAN: Were you off sick yesterday?
ME: Heavens no. But it was the Feast of Charles Laughton, and I was home eating chicken drumsticks and throwing them at poor people.

Speaking of Charles Laughton, "The Strange Door" was an absolute HOOT of a film yesterday. I've never seen a baddie so resolutely, irredeemably, unremittingly EVIL at Chazza in this film. And he looks so pleased with himself! That's the charm of it. And Boris Karloff stars too, so I was VERY happy with it.

There was a hero in there too I think, but he was boring. It's the baddies I was watching for.

You know, now that I think back on it, I suppose I actually DO have a lot of secret holiday-days at work. "Podcast Days", perhaps. It's just that no-one has noticed yet.

Ba-ha-ha-haaaaa, as Charles Laughton would say.
