Llyn Bochlwyd
aka Australia Lake
This wonderful view belies just how grim a lot of today was, until about 15.00 we were in claggy cloud and rain - but still having type 2 fun. Our scrambling masterclass moved onto the finest mountain in Wales - and once again Tryfan delivered.
Wet greasy rock actually helped with our learning objectives (FWG did really well to get a view at the Canon) - the need to bypass some of the steeper and consequence strewn sections meaning that FWG really had her work cut out to pick a safe but rewarding route up this huge lump of rock.
There's something both inspiring and privileged to see someone push themselves close to the edge of their envelope*, to in any small way be part of helping their comfort zone get bigger - and todays conditions and route were a real step into the world of mountaineering and getting the job done - probably why the Mountain gods rewarded us with a moment of solitude on this nearly always crowded summit and some spectacular 360° views.
Of course - being Wales we got (another) proper soaking on the long walk down to the van, but it seemed worth it.
Backblipped yesterday's scramble if you've not seen it.
* and it really doesn't matter where that edge is - if you've never left the city and one day you decide to wander into the wild places, if you can't afford the 'proper' kit but you wrap up and go anyway, if you're petrified of the fall but you push on because you want to climb or if you just think "heck I want to try that" - then you're a hero and you deserve praise and respect. Trying is everything.
