Ok, so it's minus lots of degrees, and my boots are too tight and I'd do almost anything right now for a hot chocolate but, but, but look. No, really look. Really closely - what do you see?

No skiers.

Bliss.

We noticed this last year in Stowe too: very busy at the foot of the mountain, lots of people milling about carrying skis - but once you get up on the slopes: it's like a ghost piste. Maybe the others all headed off to the scary runs, leaving the cruising blues for us. Glorious.

Actually a few minutes after this we couldn't see any more, so had to stop for a fabulous hot chocolate to wait out the worst of the weather, then off for more beautiful floaty powder skiing. Though it was the powder that was beautiful rather than my skiing (which was once described very eloquently by an instructor as "effective but inelegant").
