Sunny Sunday

We woke up at 5am to beat the sun and the crowds and drove to Bangla Sahib. No such luck. The sun came up strong, not yet with fury, but radiating intense heat even at the early hour. The crowds had the same idea as us and there were many people within the grounds, around the Sarovar and inside the Gurdwara.

We stayed to listen to the Kirtan for a while. Normally at the local G, I'm swept away in the divinity of the singing. But today I found myself people watching. Where we sat had a prime view of a passing parade of people all gliding along at the same pace as if on a moving walkway at the airport.

Afterwards we went to have Langar. They had already had the first sitting of hundreds. Many volunteers were preparing for the next session. We had a simple meal of parshada, dhal and very sweet tea.
On the way home, we stopped to get some spicy chana bhatura at the local market where they were frying up the big puffy bhaturas fresh. The man serving looked like he was trying to fit a balloon into a paper bag.

By the time we got it home, it was no longer spherical but tasted amazing nevertheless. North Indian food has to be the best in the world. I say this objectively having sampled international cuisine of many varieties.
