Tallis at the Baltic

Janet Cardiff's The Forty Part Motet is a recording on Thomas Tallis's work Spem in Alium with each part played through a separate speaker. The effect is stunning. You can stand by one of the speakers and hear the music from the perspective of one of the singers, or sit in the centre for a more balanced perspective. I heard aspects of the motet that I've never noticed in other recordings or a live performance, even though it is one of my favourites.

Well worth a visit if you go to Newcastle-upon-Tyne before the 14th October.
