The next generation...

Es voted for the first time this morning bright and early at 7am as she had a full day of Get Out The Vote and polling agent duties ahead of her.

Mr R and I voted then too wth the Fangle in tow.

After we voted I headed to the office to manage GOTV through our campaign system. Es got down to the hard graft of doorstep campaigning. She returned home tonight after close of poll at the back of 10pm.

After a brief flurry with the Greens after the referendum in 2014 she joined the SNP shortly after her 16th Birthday a few weeks ago. Her grandfather joined the Party at that age too way back in 1948 and I too was 16 when I joined after a few weeks non-stop campaigning in the 1987 General Election.

I was out running early this morning, a polling day managing a GOTV system does not offer a lot of opportunities for exercise so was getting it in early, All this was mulling through my head and I'll admit to getting a wee bit emotional when I thought about Es and her busy day ahead and then about her Grandpa and how he would have felt seeing her heading out for her first campaigning polling day. I know how her Mammy felt...very proud of her independently minded daughter.

Grateful for the democracy we have in this country and the opportunity to participate in that process.
