Gonu

This was the evening cyclone Gonu struck Muscat.

We had a bit of warning of a storm coming for a few days but we really didn't expect what happened.

The light swent out quite early on but we didn't worry too much and just sat playing Scrabble by candlelight catching drips of rain coming through the windows.

It wasn't until we saw our Omani neighbours evacuating that I went onto the roof to see the extremely scary sight of the sea hurtling towards our villa. It took ten minutes for the water to start pouring in our house and after an hour or so, we were completely flooded and stranded with the cars floating about outside.

Very scary stuff. That evening will live with me forever.
