this year, last year, sometime

This warm weather means I'm planting seeds - these are for next winter, planning ahead - black kale which grows really well here and tastes wonderful.

Our house used to be a B&B with a market garden, and 40 years later, we still have the legacy of falling down greenhouses, rusting monster of a soil steriliser, millions of pots and some odd things like this old wooden tray which I use a s a cover for my potting compost. It  has a nice skeleton leaf on the underside and some useful info about "The Dogwood - Floral Emblem of British Columbia". (The wood was used to make skewers or "dags" apparently so it got called Dagwood and then Dogwood...now a protected tree, so you aren't allowed to pick or destroy it. The tray itself is made of Western Red Cedar..).

Amazing what you can learn while gardening...

In other news, I caught the bus into town this morning to pick up the car, which after a month and much ingenuity on the part of Alan at Bridge End Garage, is up and running once more. Hurrah!

Also I was back at drumming this evening for the first time in weeks. Looking  forward to our next gig on 20th May at  the Maidens of Music Festivalin Dumfries.
