Day Eleven, Wellington and home
We were up at 5 a.m. to have breakfast and board the ferry for the 9 a.m. sailing from Wellington to Picton on Kaiarahi. We were able to stay on the bus while the driver backed up the ramp. Being first on we got the pick of the seats. The first extra shows where we entered the ferry and left it with us all on board 3 and a half hours later. I wandered round before we left checking out the life raft and seeing Wellington from out on the water. The second extra are the houses closest to the ferry terminal in an area called Thorndon. The next is right across the harbour to Oriental Parade where our hotel was.
As you can see Wellington is mostly hills around a lovely deep water harbour.
For lunch I had the scone with jam and cream that comes round on a trolley
A good run to Nelson where Trev picked us up and another 40 minutes home by 4pm.
Everyone on the tour expressed their thanks to the driver. He made the tour with his professional manner, his equal treatment of everyone on board, his knowledge of every place we passed or went to, plus driving us over 4000 odd kms free of incident.
The passengers were mostly the older age group who all mixed well. I could only admire those that had disabilities but who coped so well with getting on and off the bus many times a day, climbing stairs, sleeping in different beds, eating different foods, being up early, standing in queues and taking in everything around them.
I came home with about 550 photos to download from the camera. I had deleted the repeats and the duds on the camera. Being without regular wifi and only having phone and ipad to edit on has limited the number of extras I put on. Long days and being weary meant I didn't describe all the places we visited in any great depth. Comments on your photos have been few but normal communications will resume soon. I thank those that followed along and I may post some extras of the last 11 days now I can see them properly - no promises.
