Moughton

Today's walk was supposed to be no more than 7 miles - but was actually 9.5, however, it was a fascinating walk.
We started from Austwick and visited the Norber boulders, erratics that were moved along the valley by a glacier and left on the limestone, which then eroded leaving them perched (one in extras). Then up the hill and a walk above Clapdale and on Long Scar toward Sulber Gate. We found an unfortunate sheep that had fallen into a hole and tried to rescue it but it was too jammed and had no strength left to help us, sadly we had to leave it.
Lunch at a crossroads on the bridleway and then past several groups of Primula farinose (Bird'seye primrose) - See other extra.
Then across to Moughton where going through the wall revealed this amazing scenery. We walked along the top of the scar on the limestone pavement then down the valley at the end and back through fields to Austwick and a welcome pint in the pub.
