The Upright Dog

This is the dog who stands upright
This is the dog who gave us a fright

There, at his gate, he equalled our height
For this is a dog who stands upright

We were not there to pick a fight
With the huge dog who gave us a fright

But he barked at us with all of his might
A big scary dog who stands upright!

Our pallor turned a paler shade of white
And this is the dog who gave us a fright

Though, with the gate closed, the threat was slight
From the big dog who stands upright

But could he open or leap it? Dangerous, right?
For this is a dog who gives folk a fright

And so we skedaddled and were soon out of sight
Goodbye to the dog who stands upright

We’d witnessed the bark but not tested the bite
Of the big dog who gave us a fright
