Dramatic waves
Backblip
We had packed most of the things in the car on Thursday night so it was just a case of having a quick breakfast, striping the bed and putting the washing machine on (never had to do that before), put the last few items into the car ( we always seem to have a car load ! ) and we were our way. A final wave to every passing car, everyone waves on Islay, and we were arrived and joined the queue to the ferry in Port Ellen. Everything ran smoothly and we were soon on board. The ferry man did nt even need his tape measure this time and the raised platform was nt needed.
I stood outside and watched Islay disappear into the distance before joining Mike inside for a bacon and egg roll and a cup of tea, the food and service were both excellent.
We arrived just over 2 hours later in Kennacraig and then made our way to Campbeltown, most of the cars went the other way so we had the road to ourselves .We stopped at a great cafe in Glenbarr , delicious ploughmans with local cheeses and pickles and broccoli ,leek and cheese soup.
We stopped at Westport beach where the waves were amazing wIth the wind blowing a gale. Just a few others braving the beach trying to avoid getting sand in their eyes. We stood for ages just watching the waves coming in. Even the wind surfer decided it was too windy and went for a walk instead.
We signed into the hotel and then went to explore the Mull of Kintyre, and yes we did play that song by Paul McCartney and we sang along as the mist rolled in ;) We drove down to Southend where the waves were equally impressive, almost lashing on to the road as the tide was soo high. We saw the large caves, watched fulmars trying to get to their nests on the cliff face, drove soe of the way down to the lighthouse , we looked at the seabird observatory at Machrihanish, and then returned to Campbeltown with the sun shining and it was nice to see places I had seen on blip in real life.
We went to our room, got ready and met Beachcomber and A7 for dinner. We had a very tasty meal and a great natter. It was really nice to see them again. We went back to theirs for a cup of tea, saw some of A7 amazing artwork and then returned to our hotel for a good nights sleep before the long journey home :)
