Springfield

Viewed from the Wallace Monument on the Abbey Craig. This of course is not Springfield but is in fact Causewayhead, an ancient thoroughfare along which the Scottish 'army' under the command of William Wallace travelled to defeat the English forces at Stirling Bridge in 1297.
The land here is tidal floodplain on the banks of the meandering River Forth so perhaps required some engineering to create a causeway across damp ground.
Nowadays it is a busy road full of daytrippers looking for history. Well it was today.
