Summer Yard Session at MAO Oxford
This evening I went to the last of the summer Yard Sessions at the Museum of Modern Art. The Yard is great as an evening venue, an airy comfortable space, you can see my daytime blip of the space here.
The music this evening was promoted as a fantastic folk-fest, I'm not sure I'd have described it as such but it was great to be back hearing live music and each of the bands had their attractions. Best for me was Oli Steadman, not with his usual band, Stornoway, but with some jazzier Zulu musicians performing numbers based on Zulu drumming rhythyms - I detected an Abdullah Ibrahim infuence too - great stuff! The evening was headlined by Treetop Flyers performing some rootsy Americana - great Neil Young influenced retro sound.
I couldn't believe that I'd forgotten to take my camera out with me - I could've taken some fab shots of the bands. Instead I took a couple of pics of the shadows cast on the walls (the shadows of an art installation I suspect) with my phone. One bonus, I have now worked out how to transer pics from my phone to my computer (this was a hairy learning experience at an electricals shop as a sales assistant nearly talked me into buying an ipad, lucky to escape with my mini memory card adpater at a saving of hundreds of pounds - phew).
