A fine clock
Today's clock is a particularly fine one made by Marriott of London c1780. The back plate is beautifully engraved. For those technically minded, it is a double fusee verge mechanism with quarter bim bam striking. It should have two bells I think but has been converted at some stage to chime on a single bell. The 24 hour dial is particularly unusual. I have included a shot of the parts and a side view showing the contrate and crown wheels of the early verge escapement. I have taken a lot of photographs as its mechanism is unusual in many respects. Reassembly might be interesting!
