Jura, Deer Island
We travelled by the roll on roll off ferry from Islay to Jura on an early ferry. The school children all piled off nd then on to a bus, what a way to get to school, there must have been about 10.
It was raining and only three degrees but we decided to take the risk and hope that the weather would improve and it really did. Beautifully blue skies and warmer too.
We drove down all the roads popping out for short walks and taking lots of photos, a great place.I noticed a Postbox that had a plaque attached to it,it was dedicated to Mrs Starling who returned for several years to rear her brood.
We looked at old photos in a pretty little white church with great stained glass windows. On to the end of the road, through gates we had to open and close,4 miles from a cottage where George Orwell wrote 1984, he wanted somewhere remote, he got it !
Spotted a buzzard, a possible eagle and a peregrine falcon.
There are deer everywhere, 6000, at the last count and this week the Game Keepers are counting them again. You can even see them on peoples door steps !
We saw an otter near a boathouse, walked on a white sand beach, Had a mug of hot chocolate at Tea on the beach ( a converted horsebox) had lunch in a Bistro with the locals and waited for the Ferry still in the sunshine. The children were returning from school and the Community shop vehicle had returned too.
When we reached Islay we saw the wildabout Scotland bus that had been at Bowmore Primary yesterday.
Watching the sun go down from the lounge now.
