Sham el nesseem

A pharaonic Easter tradition. Salted fish and raw onions. The stories and giggles abound as people talk about how much the fish smells. Have you tried it? They laugh as they ask you.

The photo was taken in my neighbour's garden in a property about 45 mins out of Cairo. So peaceful, no noise, and fresher air. All little luxuries. We enjoyed lunch with his older brother, ex wife and nephew. Lovely company.

The red plant in the photo is a bottle brush. Australian.
