Speedwell Veronica.

The name 'Speedwell' comes from the word 'thrive' and 'Veronica' goes back about 500 years and is connected to the legendary lady, Veronica. It is also known as 'Bird's Eyes' and if picked, the birds would peck your eyes. Thankfully I didn't pick any !  This was growing on a nearby old wall. Speedwell is considered to be a diuretic,  expectorant and tonic. Once highly regarded in England as a healthy, relaxing tea. An infusion of the dried flowers can be used as a wash for troubled skin. Recent studies show it may be an effective preventative treatment for ulcers. Also said to relieve gout. Don't try these remedies without doctor's advice. The Germans know Speedwell as 'The Prize Of Honour' as, on the collars of legendary knights of yore, it commemorated a famous joust in 1465 between England and France.
