Bumps in the Road

Far, Faro away

Waking at an incredible 4am (yes, really), we rallied the kids and made our way to the airport.  We've been pretty happy with the service from Jet2 in the past but the queues this morning were enormous.  I guess it's the beginning of the Easter holidays for most people so many were making the most of the early start and jetting away for some early summer sun.  Anyway, by the time we made it through check-in, we didn't have long to get through security.  And by the time we got through security, our flight was closing.  We ran down to our gate, only to find there were two flights bound for Faro at 6:45am and this wasn't ours.  Ours was departing from the other end of the airport!  Kids in tow, we legged it over to the far side of the airport, just as they were closing the gate.  Phew.  We made it.

The kids were great on the airplane, although I think the wee man was suitably sedated with a tablet (of the Android variety).

When we finally arrived in Faro, we rented our car and headed into the city for a spot of lunch (our villa wasn't available until 3pm).  Wandering around the old city, reminded me of the time I was here about 6-7 years ago.  I couldn't remember too much about the area but it felt reassuring to be back in the Portuguese sun.

We had arranged for dinner to be made at our villa, although hadn't realised it wouldn't be served until about 7:30pm.  By the time we'd finished (actually, well before we'd finished), the kids were absolutely exhausted.  We tucked them into bed around 9pm and then followed into our own shortly after.

This is going to be a cracking holiday.
