Castled
Waking up for the first morning in our Portuguese villa and despite the lack of sleep, the kids were remarkably acclimatised. The fact that there's a pool table certainly helped them settle in.
We spent the morning in and around the house before setting off on a short drive (which we extended when the little lady passed out) over to Silves Castle. Dating from around the 13th century, the castle was in remarkable condition, giving the children free rein to roam around the inside. Unlike the recent renovation of Lincoln castle, the one in Silves didn't have any rails around the outskirts, which made for a couple of fairly nervous parents.
After sampling a delicious fresh fruit smoothie, we returned to the villa and exposed the kids to the swimming pool. To say that they loved it would be an understatement. I originally thought we'd spend about half an hour in there but by the time we finally dragged them out, 90 minutes had passed!
Although the wee man was little apprehensive at first, the little lady had no fear at all. Both were flinging themselves in from the side, ready for Mama, Dada or Grandma to catch. It's such a great pool too as the water level is shallow enough for both to walk in the majority of the pool.
Thankfully we managed to get the kids down for bed by a more normal 6pm tonight, meaning we were free to kick back, enjoy the leftovers from last night along with a bottle of Vino Verde.
I could get used to this.
