Life in Newburgh on Ythan

Peterhead revisited.

Another afternoon looking for interesting things in and around around Peterhead harbour. It was very quiet with not much happening and the best that I have to offer is a Great black-backed gull Larus marinus.

Extra. I then walked across to the ancient graveyard of St Peter. It was even quieter there with nothing at all happening! Bearing in mind that we are in the midst of the commemoration of the First World War, and remembering that the great battle of Arras started 100 years ago tomorrow, it seemed appropriate to photograph the war memorial that lies within the graveyard perimeter The memorial in the form of a 40 foot high stylised obelisk overlooks the North Sea. It is said that tall memorials such as this were particularly popular among coastal communities and that they served as useful navigation aids.
